A die without the die
Each roll gives a whole number from 1 to 6 with exactly the same chance, about 16.7% each, which is what a fair six-sided die does. Set “How many numbers” to roll several dice at once; repeats are allowed, just like real dice.
Lost the dice from a board game? Use this page instead: roll two numbers for games that use a pair of dice, then add them up.
Rolling two dice: which totals are most likely
With two dice, totals aren't equally likely, because some can be made in more ways. Seven is the most common total.
| Total | Ways to roll it | Chance |
|---|---|---|
| 2 or 12 | 1 | 2.8% |
| 3 or 11 | 2 | 5.6% |
| 4 or 10 | 3 | 8.3% |
| 5 or 9 | 4 | 11.1% |
| 6 or 8 | 5 | 13.9% |
| 7 | 6 | 16.7% |
Frequently asked questions
Is this the same as rolling a real die?
Yes for fairness: every number from 1 to 6 has the same 1-in-6 chance, and each roll is independent of the last.
How do I roll two dice?
Set “How many numbers” to 2 and leave “No repeats” off, since both dice can land on the same number.
Do you have other dice?
Yes. The 1–20 generator works as a d20, and the 1–4 picker as a d4.
