How the difficulty levels work

LevelWhat you getExample
EasyOne character with a simple propA corgi wearing a party hat.
MediumA character doing something in a specific placeA sleepy fox reading a map in a snowy forest.
HardA full scene with a set camera angle and lightingA rusty robot fixing a broken clock on a space station, seen from a worm's-eye view, under flickering neon.

Hard prompts are hard on purpose. Unusual angles and specific lighting are the skills most sketchbooks skip, and they're what make an illustration look finished.

Getting more out of drawing prompts

Thumbnail first

Spend two minutes on three tiny layout sketches before you commit. Composition problems are easier to fix small.

Set a timer

A 20-minute limit stops you polishing one corner and forces you to finish the whole idea.

Redraw with a challenge

Draw the same prompt twice: once freely, then with an art challenge turned on. Compare what changed.

Keep a prompt journal

Star prompts you liked and revisit them months later. Redrawing an old prompt is the clearest way to see progress.

Art challenges

Turn on Add an art challenge to get a creative constraint with each prompt, such as using only three colors, drawing in one continuous line or leaving half the page empty. Constraints force decisions about which colors and lines really matter, and that's where a lot of the learning happens.

Just want a subject without the story? The Random Drawing Generator gives open-ended ideas sized to the time you have. For worldbuilding art, pair a prompt with a name from the Dragon Name Generator.
