What to do with random objects and items

Drawing practice

Sketch each object from memory, then again from a reference photo. Comparing the two quickly shows gaps in your visual library.

Charades and guessing games

Generate 20 objects, hide the screen and act them out. Kitchen, tools and sports items work best because everyone recognizes them.

Improv and drama

Give each performer a random object they must use in a scene as a prop, a gift or a clue.

Writing warm-ups

Put three random objects into a single paragraph. Unlikely combinations push you toward unexpected stories.

For more open-ended art ideas, try the Random Drawing Generator, which adds twists like “made of glass” or “overgrown with flowers” to a subject.

Frequently asked questions

How many objects are in the generator?
More than 900 everyday objects across 20 categories, from kitchen utensils, furniture and tools to musical instruments, party supplies and science gear.
Is this also a random item or random thing generator?
Yes. “Object”, “item” and “thing” mean the same here: every result is a concrete, physical thing you could hold, draw or act out.
Can the same object appear twice?
Not in the same batch. Each generation draws without replacement, so every object in the list is unique. Pressing generate again starts a fresh draw.
Which category is best for younger kids?
Toys & games, Kitchen and Household contain the most familiar objects. They work well for vocabulary practice and simple drawing games.
