What is a headcanon?

A headcanon is a personal belief about a character that the original story never confirms, like what they eat for breakfast or why they hate thunderstorms. Fans use headcanons to fill gaps in a story. Writers use them to get to know original characters (OCs) before putting them on the page.

Using headcanons to build a character

Interview your OC

Generate ten headcanons and keep only the ones that feel right. The ones you reject tell you just as much about who your character isn't.

Look for contradictions

A character who is afraid of the dark but comforts everyone else during storms has instant depth. Combine opposites on purpose.

Turn one into a scene

Pick a headcanon and write 200 words that show it without stating it. It's a great warm-up and often becomes a real scene.

Build a character sheet

Star your favorites, then add a birthday and zodiac sign from the Random Birthday Generator and a name from the Fantasy Name Generator.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use this for fan fiction?
Yes. Type a canon character's name and pronouns, and every headcanon is written about them. It works for any fandom because nothing is tied to a specific story.
Is the name I type saved anywhere?
No. The generator runs entirely in your browser, and the name is never sent to a server. Headcanons you star are stored only on your device.
What does AU mean?
AU stands for alternate universe: the same character placed in a different setting, like a modern coffee shop instead of a fantasy kingdom.
